Careers: Cost Accountant – building industry

Portland Group is looking for a full time COST ACCOUNTANT at our group of companies. Our office is situated outside Durbanville on the Vissershok Road.

Responsibilities will include the normal functions of a cost accountant for a group of companies. This position forms part of the support staff in the daily running of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Accounting of 4 production/manufacturing companies

Budgets vs Actual – Income and expenses

Salaries & Wages (PAYE, Commission Calcs, Incentive Calcs, etc)

Manage and calculate costing of raw materials – including sales price, mark up and discounts

Daily Sales Reporting

Daily, Weekly, Monthly Forecast (Sales, Expenses, Etc.)

Sign-off monthly creditors

Costing management of- (FAMS) Diesel, Tyres, Cement, Sand, Steel, Cable, etc.

Web fleet Management

Oversee Procurement

Use the company’s historical trends to predict future performance

Oversee monthly/quarterly assessments and forecast the company’s financial and operational goals

Report monthly financial and risk analysis to directors

Drive & Manage weekly production and sales meetings with divisional managers to stay informed and gain insight of financial implications and risks

Manage, review and prepare all company budgets and processes

Implement and finalize budgets and divisional objectives, specifically focussing on financial implications

Investigate diversions from planned financial activity

Minimum Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Costing qualification
  • Proficiency using MS Word and MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and other computer software
  • Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience in a similar role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Own transport
  • Work references
  • Deadline and programme driven – ability to adhere to time programmes
  • Accurate work under pressure

This position offers a market-related salary – dependent on qualifications and previous experience. Employees become members of a provident fund after their probation period. The annual close down is in December/January during the builder’s holiday. Working hours are from 08:00 to 17:00, but only until 15:00 on a Friday.
